Potential Tasks/Projects

Work-exchange volunteers will perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Pre-conference promotions/publicity: hosting film screenings, distributing flyers, visiting community events, etc.
  • Conference setup (stuffing registration packets, setting up rooms, carrying boxes, running errands, etc.)
  • Staffing  information booths and registration tables
  • Serving as session room monitors (straightening chairs, assisting speakers, passing the microphone during Q&A’s, collecting evaluations, troubleshooting audiovisual equipment)
  • Serving as hall monitors between sessions (providing directions, guarding equipment)
  • Cleanup (stacking tables and chairs, removing trash, removing signs, etc.)
  • Assisting attendees with special requests (e.g., serving as a guide for a blind attendee, translating from English to Spanish, etc.)

*Please note the orientation and training are mandatory for all volunteers.

Please indicate your preference for day(s) and time(s) you would like to work. We will do our best to accommodate your request, but we cannot make any guarantees. We expect you to fulfill your work-exchange commitment even if your assignment does not match your request.

By submitting this application, you agree to the following:

  • I understand that, as a volunteer, I am not entitled to the benefits of employment, such as monetary compensation for work, severance pay or notice of termination of employment, accident and medical insurance or worker’s compensation insurance.
  • I understand that only members of the Free Press organizing and events team have the authority to enter into any agreement for a work-exchange placement at the National Conference for Media Reform.

 

Part VI: Waiver of liability

All participants in the work-exchange program at the National Conference for Media Reform will be required to sign a waiver of liability prior to their service. The waiver document is provided below for informational purposes. You will be required to sign the waiver at the volunteer training and orientation session. If you are under 18 years old, please print the waiver form, have your parent or guardian sign it where indicated and bring it with you to the training and orientation session.
