Michael Winship

Senior Writer for Moyers & Company

Michael Winship is the Emmy Award-winning senior writer of the public television series Moyers & Company. A senior writing fellow at the public policy and advocacy group Demos, he is also the president of the Writers Guild of America East, an affiliate of the AFL-CIO.

Michael is a veteran public television writer and producer whose other credits include American Experience, Bill Moyers Journal, Nature, NOVA, Smithsonian World and Television, as well as many arts, documentary and public affairs specials. He has also worked for A&E, CBS, the Disney Channel, the Discovery and Learning Channels, the History Channel, Lifetime, National Geographic TV and Turner Broadcasting, and has written for many national publications and websites.

Michael is the author of the book Television and co-editor of the book Bill Moyers Journal: The Conversation Continues. He has been nominated 10 times for the Writers Guild Award for outstanding achievement in writing and received it thrice, as John Kerry would say.

For his work as one of the leaders of the 100-day Writers Guild strike against the studios and networks in 2007-2008, Michael received the Sidney Hillman Foundation Officers Award.
