Bea Bodrogi

Human Rights Lawyer and Co-Founder of CivilMedia

In 2010, Bea Bodrogi co-founded CivilMedia, a non-governmental organization that promotes freedom of opinion and freedom of the press. She provides legal assistance to journalists, people who shape public opinion and anyone whose freedom of expression has been unjustifiably limited. Her primary focus is media coverage of disadvantaged groups.

Over the last 15 years, Bea has served as legal counsel before Hungarian and international courts in the defense of Romas, people with disabilities, women and members of the LGBT communities. She has directed various human rights programs, and trained more than 200 judges in discrimination law, an effort that was subsidized by the European Union and handled in collaboration with the Hungarian Judicial Academy. A trainer and mediator, she has published widely in the field of human rights, and also co-authored a commentary on the law of equal treatment.

Bea is currently writing a handbook covering all (Hungarian) legislation on freedom of expression.
