Sonali Kolhatkar

Host and Executive Producer of Uprising Radio at KPFK

Sonali Kolhatkar is the host and executive producer of KPFK Pacifica Radio's popular morning public affairs program, Uprising. She is also the director of Uprising Media, a nonprofit organization that promotes community journalism.

Sonali is the author of Bleeding Afghanistan: Washington, Warlords, and the Propaganda of SilenceShe has spent over a decade doing solidarity work with Afghan women political activists through her organization, Afghan Women's Mission, which she co-directs. Sonali has won a number of awards for her activism and journalism from community organizations and publishes widely online in such outlets as Alternet and Common Dreams. She has lectured at more than 100 college campuses on such issues as women in the media and the war in Afghanistan.

Sonali has an M.S. in astrophysics and lives with her husband and two sons in Pasadena, Calif.
