Denise Cardinal

Executive Director of ProgressNow

Denise Cardinal is the executive director of ProgressNow and ProgressNow Education, a 21-state network of state-based communication hubs known for hard-hitting tactics and effective strategies. Cardinal worked closely with dozens of state-based and national partners in creating Alliance for a Better Minnesota, the Minnesota ProgressNow affiliate. ABM is hailed as a national model and is widely credited with winning back the legislature in 2012 and the governor's office in 2010 for progressives.

Before moving back to her home state of Minnesota to be the communications director for America Votes Minnesota, Denise served for five years as senior press officer for the National Education Association in Washington, D.C. She also previously served as the press secretary for U.S. Senator Kent Conrad.

Denise's first political job was as press secretary for the Jan Jones 1998 gubernatorial campaign in Nevada. Before that she was fulfilling her lifelong dream of being a city hall reporter for the Las Vegas Sun. She’s worked at newspapers in Idaho, Iowa and Nevada and earned a degree in journalism from Drake University.

Denise lives in Saint Paul with her husband and two young children in an old, lovely but drafty home.
