Jason is a progressive writer and media critic. He blogs at www.bigmedia.org and cross-posts on ColoradoPols, the Huffington Post, SquareState.net and elsewhere.

From 2004-2009, Jason was a media critic for the Rocky Mountain News, where he wrote a biweekly column. He's the author of three books: Making the News: A Guide for Activists and Nonprofits (with Ben Cohen of Ben and Jerry’s), 50 Ways You Can Show George the Door and (with Michael Huttner) 50 Ways You Can Help Obama Change America. His chapter “Journalism and the Scientific Consensus on Global Warming” appeared in How the West Was Warmed. He co-authored “Local TV News: Getting Away with Murder,” which appeared in the Harvard Journal on Press/Politics.

Jason's articles have appeared in the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the Christian Science Monitor, the Chronicle of Philanthropythe Huffington Postthe Los Angeles TimesNewsweek, Nonprofit World, Shaman’s Drum, Sierrathe Utne Reader and elsewhere. He co-founded Rocky Mountain Media Watch, a nonprofit organization that aims to hold the news media to their own professional standards. He's also the president of Effect Communications, which serves progressive nonprofits.
