Daniel Schaefer

New Media Manager in the University of Colorado Boulder Journalism Department

Daniel is a doctoral candidate in the University of Colorado’s department of communication studying the intersection of organizational communication and technology, with a focus on issues of collaboration. His dissertation explores how journalists make sense of crowdsourcing in social media.

Daniel has a B.A. in communication from Western Michigan University and an M.A. in journalism from the University of Colorado (CU). He has technical expertise in video-game programming, Web and mobile app development and mobile augmented reality.

Daniel Schaefer and Steve Outing run the CU Journalism dLab, a digital lab that conducts experiments in digital innovative technology and teaches practical skills in digital reporting (from mobile journalism, live streaming and backpack journalism to advanced research strategies in social media data). dLab serves both journalism students and faculty members at CU.
