Nickey Robare

Online Communications Coordinator for the St. Paul Neighborhood Network

Nickey Robare has been creating independent media since her elementary school days in Chicago. At age nine, she started the Lakewood-Balmoral Gazette, a photocopied community newspaper, with her neighbor. She moved on to 'zines and filmmaking as a teenager.

Her senior thesis at Hampshire College, The News Is What We Make It, is an animated short about media conglomeration that won the Media Reform Award at the fifth annual Media That Matters film festival. After college she discovered the wonderful world of cable access, and served as a Digital Arts Service Corps member in the Pacific Northwest at Portland Community Media and Reel Grrls.

In 2011, Nickey moved to Minnesota to work at the St. Paul Neighborhood Network as the online communications coordinator. She also loves bikes, sewing and fashion.
