Dan Gillmor

Author and Professor at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication

Dan Gillmor teaches digital media entrepreneurship and media literacy at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. His most recent book, Mediactive, aims to help turn passive media consumers into active users — as participants at every step of the process.

Dan's upcoming book and Web project, tentatively entitled Permission Taken, explores the increasing control that companies and governments are exerting over the way we use technology and communicate. His first book, We the Media: Grassroots Journalism by the People, for the People, covered the rise of citizen media, and has been translated into many foreign languages, most recently Korean and Arabic.

Dan writes a regular online column for the Guardian newspaper. He has also been a co-founder, investor and adviser in a number of digital media startups and nonprofits.
